Gunmen in Mombasa killed moderate cleric Sheikh Mohammed Idris, chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya. Idris, a vocal opponent of Shabaab, had been threatened previously and was involved in a power struggle with extremists at his mosque. Terror charges were filed against Jabareen Ahmad a.k.a. Ahmad Ahmad Mohamood Salim a.k.a. Harun Osama, an Israeli, and Mohamed Salim a.k.a. Daud, a Moroccan; Osama, thought to be a top member of Shabaab, was arrested on Feb. 25 on suspicion of planning terror attacks in Kenya. Four Somalis accused of plotting a terror attack at Jomo Kenyatta airport dropped their application for reduced bail. Bail has been denied for Dugal Ali, who is linked to a suspected Shabaab car bombing on April 23, as he is thought to have planned other terror attacks while in jail.
