A Kenyan MP claimed that about 3,000 Kenyan and Somali youth trained under a US-funded program to provide security for a buffer zone along the Somali border have instead become terrorists for hire in Kenya. A police officer investigating "sensitive cases" was shot and killed by three gunmen in Mombasa, where Shabaab sympathizers have murdered a number of security forces and informers.
