Residents of the coastal city of Derna are complaining about the increasing presence and activities of al Qaeda-linked groups, including the Sufian al-Quma brigade, which is led by a former driver for Osama bin Laden. The government and media are keeping silent about the groups, residents claim. Reports of the emergence of the Derna group, called Ansar al Sharia, appeared over a year ago, but the Interior Minister claimed that all was under control. Yesterday Prime Minister Zeidan promised that results of terror investigations in Benghazi would be revealed soon; no significant terror arrests have been made in Libya since the 2011 revolution, despite much talk of investigations and "progress."
