The Special Immigration Appeals Commission refused Abu Qatada's request to be released on bail while he awaits deportation to Jordan, saying the extremist cleric remained a threat to national security who had "a range of sympathetic and supportive contacts." Qatada was jailed for bail violations in March; a search of his home revealed a "wholesale and wanton disregard" of bail conditions, including possession of jihadist material and videos produced by "the media wing of al Qaeda."
