French special forces parachuted into Tessalit and seized the town and its airfield. A suicide bomber on a motorbike detonated near a Malian army checkpoint in Gao, killing himself and slightly injuring a Malian soldier. The Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa claimed the bombing and threatened further attacks. Gunfighting between rival Malian army factions in Bamako left two people dead and 13 others wounded. European Union military trainers began to arrive in the country.
