Army forces stopped two men in Lexeiba thought to have entered the country in a convoy of cars filled with explosives and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb fighters. One man detonated a suicide belt to avoid capture; the other was detained. Authorities believe the AQIM was targeting the French embassy; AQIM claimed the attack sought to kill Mauritania's president.
