The British government said it was going to ban Shabaab; the group could be active among Britain's large and socially deprived community of Somali refugees. At least eight people were killed in heavy fighting and artillery shelling in Mogadishu. Three UN trucks and their drivers were being held in the pirate town of Eyl after delivering food aid in central Somalia.
