US helicopters killed nine Special Groups fighters after clashes in Sadr City. Iraqi security forces found the largest explosively formed penetrator cache to date in Multinational Division Center™s area of operation; more than 1,000 EFP components, 3,000 pounds of explosives, and multiple 107mm rockets and stands were in the cache. The Iraqi Army rescued 42 college students who were kidnapped by insurgents in southwestern Mosul. Coalition forces killed two al Qaeda operatives and detained 25 during raids in central and northern Iraq. The Iraqi Islamic Party is pressuring the government to incorporate the Awakening fighters into the security forces.
