Afghan president Hamid Karzai narrowly escapes assassination after Taliban gunmen attack a military parade he attended in Kabul. Four people, including a parliamentarian from Paktia province, died in the attack. Afghan commandos killed 30 insurgent leaders in eastern Afghanistan since December. Twenty-four Taliban fighters and their leader surrendered in Kandahar province.
An Australian commando was killed and four were wounded in a firefight with the Taliban in Uruzgan province.
