Family and friends of radical US cleric Ansar al Awlaki said he survived the Dec. 24 airstrike in Shabwa province that targeted a high-level al Qaeda meeting. Mohammed Saleh Awlaki, a local al Qaeda leader, is thought to have been killed in the strike.

Rubaish repeatedly attacks the Saudi government in his messages and has justified assassinations of Saudi officials. At Gitmo, Rubaish admitted he was a committed jihadist who had been trained in an al Qaeda camp.
