Security forces in Aden discovered a bomb consisting of 1,800 grams of TNT which was placed near the Al Wahdah stadium, where a soccer tournament is to be held. The information minister claimed that “al Qaeda in Yemen is dying.”

The government said the Awlaki tribe has agreed to cooperate in expelling al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula from Shabwa province and has launched an operation in the Said district. The foreign minister claimed there are 400 AQAP fighters in Yemen and the government is hunting them.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters gunned down a colonel in the intelligence branch near his home in Mukalla in Hadramawt province. AQAP has put out a hit list of more than 50 intelligence and security officials targeted for assassination.

Australia warned its citizens against traveling to Yemen, and said its embassy and hotels are likely targets of terror attacks. Intelligence officials in Abyan said they seized al Qaeda documents that detailed plots that are to be carried out in the province.

“Militants” killed the security chief of the town of Mudiyah in Abyan province, an al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula stronghold. The provincial governor of Yemen escaped an assassination attempt while traveling to the funeral of the slain police chief.

France has advised the families of expatriate workers based in Yemen to leave the country due to the deteriorating security situation. Yemen has increased security measures in the southern al Qaeda stronghold of Abyan province.
