Ex-Gitmo detainee plotted against Saudi kingdom

A former Guantanamo detainee was reportedly involved in plotting against targets in Saudi Arabia in December 2009, two years after he was repatriated to the country. He remains a member of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

AQAP claims responsibility for cargo planes plot

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) released a statement on Friday claiming responsibility for the two package bombs found on board cargo planes in late October. The Saudis supplied the intelligence that was used to disrupt the plot, but US officials doubt the official Saudi story.

Two people were killed in a car bombing in Dalea province. More than 130 employees of the Yemen Airways Company at Sana™a airport are under investigation for connections to the parcel bomb plot. US military officials want to increase military aid to Yemen by $100 million.

A Yemeni court charged US born al Qaeda cleric Anwar al Awlaki, and his cousin Othman al Awlaki, with “plotting and incitement to murder foreigners.” Security forces launched an operation in the provinces of Maarib and Shabwa to find al Qaeda operative Ibrahim al Asiri, who is suspected of manufacturing the parcel bombs.
