Eleven al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters and two soldiers were killed during fighting in Zinjibar and Jaar. Yemeni troops are being transferred from Lawdar to Sharqa, which is under al Qaeda’s control.

The Yemeni military claimed that 35 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed in Abyan and Lahj. A former minister called for the government to negotiate with AQAP and its political front, Ansar al Sharia.

Thirty al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters and 13 Yemeni soldiers were killed during fighting outside of Jaar. The governor of Abyan claimed that Jaar would be liberated from AQAP within days and that Lawdar is now free of AQAP influence.
