An al Qaeda suicide bomber killed six militiamen in an attack on a checkpoint in Mudya in Abyan province. A senior intelligence official was gunned down in Sana’a; an estimated 60 intelligence officials have been assassinated so far this year.

A court convicted seven men of forming an al Qaeda cell that attacked government forces and installations, as well and tourists and embassies, from 2009 to 2011. The men were given sentences of one to six years in prison.

The US reportedly delivered 106 armored vehicles to the Yemeni Defense Ministry. Tribesmen freed eight truck drivers who were kidnapped last week in Lahj.

A senior Yemeni security official who guarded the US embassy in Sana’a was gunned down in the capital. Security forces seized Iranian weapons thought to be destined for Yemeni “rebels.”

Security forces arrested a suspected American citizen in Ataq in Shabwa province who is reportedly on the al Qaeda watchlist. The military said it disrupted an Iranian espionage cell that operates in Sana’a and Aden, and has Iranian, Syrian, and Yemeni members.

Yemeni troops killed a “gunman” and wounded another in Huta. Tribesmen freed a Turkish man who was kidnapped in September. The head of the largest tribal alliance called for opposing parties to “turn to dialogue.”

Yemeni troops foiled a suicide attack on the Al Anad Airbase in Lahj, where the US bases drones and military advisors. President Hadi accused Iran of backing a secessionist movement in southern Yemen.

US drones killed four al Qaeda fighters in an airstrike on a vehicle in Shabwa province. The military claimed that five Yemeni officers captured by the Al Nusrah Front in Syria have been released.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula killed two soldiers in an attack on a military outpost in Lahj. Tribesmen in Marib cut the power to Sana’a to protest the death sentence of an AQAP fighter.

Security forces killed three “key” al Qaeda leaders in Aden. Two Yemeni American doctors were killed in Aden. Defense Minister Ahmed dodged an IED attack in Sana’a.

Masked gunmen assassinated a military intelligence colonel in Aden. The Yemen Socialist Party called for the arrest of Tareq al Fadhali, a jihadist and tribal leader who has been linked to al Qaeda..

A suicide bomber killed one person during an assassination attempt that targeted the leader of an anti-al Qaeda militia in Lawdar. President Hadi endorsed the US drone campaign in Yemen, and said he personally approved each airstrike.

The children were killed in an IED attack in Hadramout. Security forces detained two al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters in Sana’a. The military reportedly will receive four unarmed RQ-11 Raven drones.

President Hadi said the government is willing to negotiate with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula if the terror group disarms. AQAP reportedly has withdrawn the bulk of its forces from Aden and Abyan and is regrouping in Marib, Al Jawf, and Sa’ada.
