A court sentenced three al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula operatives to terms of two to six years in prison. The military launched an offensive against “tribesmen” who continue to attack an LNG pipeline in Marib.

“Gunmen” kidnapped a Finnish couple and an Austrian in Tahrir Square in the capital of Sana’a. The foreigners were in Sana’a to study Arabic. No group has claimed credit for the kidnapping.

The military denied that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula had seized control of the Al Mahfad district in Abyan. “Gunmen” killed a Political Security officer in Hadramout.

A colonel who commanded a tank battalion and several soldiers were killed during fighting with “tribesmen” in Marib after an oil pipeline was bombed. The US Embassy urged Americans in Yemen to leave the country.

Security forces arrested two al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters at a hotel in Aden. The son of a senior military commander loyal to former President Salih was arrested in Hodeida for killing several policemen.

The military transferred Tareq al Fadhli, the al Qaeda-linked tribal leader in Abyan, to Aden and placed him under house arrest. The Houthis reportedly are attempting to take control of the port city of Midi.

Two aides to Tareq al Fadhli, a tribal leader in Abyan, were killed after pro-government militiamen attacked his home. Al Fadhli has been linked to al Qaeda and fought in Afghanistan.
