A court ruled that the government must return the passport of Hill Al-Jedda, an Iraqi. Jedda was arrested and imprisoned in Iraq from 2004 to 2007 for facilitating an explosives expert’s entry into Iraq as well as serving as a terrorist recruiter. The government stripped him of his citizenship in 2007.

The government’s top counterterrorism lawyer said that 52 suspected terrorists were held under the controversial control order program between 2005 and 2011. Under a more lenient system introduced in 2012, nine of the 52 suspects are still subject to certain restrictions.

London resident Shabaaz Hussain was sentenced to five years and three months in prison after he admitted to raising funds for Shabaab. A counterterrorism official said the investigation into Hussain’s provision of funds to associates in Somalia “exposed Shabaaz Hussain’s co-ordination of a terrorist fundraising network.”

Samantha Lewthwaite, the widow of London tube bomber Jermaine Lindsay, is being sought by Kenyan authorities for ties to a Shabaab cell. Along with Habib Ghani, also from the UK, she is thought to be linked to Jermaine Grant, who was arrested with explosives in Mombasa in December.
