The Union of Communities in Kurdistan denied that its ally, the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) carried out yesterday’s suicide attack in Istanbul that wounded 15 policemen and 17 civilians. The PKK is the primary suspect in the suicide attack.

A suicide bomber at a central square in Istanbul wounded 15 police officers and 17 civilians. A second, undetonated bomb was found near the attack. Authorities believe the radical Kurdistan Workers Party carried out the attack, as a truce with the group expired today.

Security forces detained five members of an al Qaeda cell in Izmir in western Turkey. The cell was supporting al Qaeda operations in Afghanistan, and included fundraisers and a computer programmer who was attempting to jam NATO UAV signals.
