Ten people were killed during fighting between government and Shabaab forces in Mogadishu. Shabaab chopped off the limbs of three men in Johwar and killed Somali businessmen and elders in Bardhere for maintaining links with Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a.

Shabaab beheaded four men accused of spying in the southern port city of Kismayo. Shabaab has arrested dozens of others and accused them of spying and other “crimes against Islam.”

Shabaab forces killed two Somali troops in an ambush in Dharkenlay. Twenty Shabaab fighters in Beledweyne surrendered to the government. The prime minister said Somali and African Union forces would eject Shabaab from Mogadishu within a year.

Shabaab killed a soldier in an IED attack in Luq. Kenya is supporting the creation of a new seni-autonomous zone in southern Somalia; the Somali government is opposed to its creation.

Fifteen people were killed in fighting between Shabaab forces and Somali and African Union troops in Mogadishu. The African Union denied its troops took casualties during Shabaab mortar attacks in Mogadishu.

Seven people were killed in fighting between Shabaab forces and Somali and African Union troops in Mogadishu. The European Union is providing $93 million to the African Union mission in Somalia.

Shabaab repelled an assault by Somali and Kenyan forces on the town of Dhobley; 20 people were killed in the fighting. African Union forces killed a senior Shabaab commander. In Gedo, 25 Shabaab fighters surrendered to the pro-government Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’a.
