Taliban in high-level talks with Karzai government, sources say
Al Qaeda announced the death of Sa’ad Mohammad al Shahri, a Saudi citizen who has been on a list of most wanted by the Kingdom since 2005.
The interior minister claimed that Saudi authorities have stopped 230 terror attacks in the country since 2003. “Saudi Arabia is tackling terrorism with all its might and authorities have so far been successful in foiling 230 of the 240 terrorist attempts,” Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz said.

Jabir Jubran al Fayfi, a former Gitmo detainee who fought in Afghanistan and Kashmir, has been arrested in Yemen. Along with other former Gitmo detainees, al Fayfi joined al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Said al Shihri, an ex-Gitmo detainee who is one of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula’s most senior leaders, issued an audiotape earlier this month seeking the support of Saudi soldiers and security officers. Al Shihri’s tape echoes the messaging of al Qaeda cleric Anwar al Awlaki, who has sought to convince Muslim soldiers to serve al Qaeda.

Said Ali Al Shihri, al Qaada in the Arabian Peninsula’s deputy and a former Gitmo detainee, said the terror group has supporters in the Saudi security forces. Shihri ordered AQAP sympathizers to rise up against the Saudi government for “collaborating with” the US.

Last week, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said that his country has agreed to accept two Gitmo detainees. One of the two was recruited by Hamas, trained in an al Qaeda camp, and allegedly wanted to conduct a suicide operation. The other allegedly traveled to Afghanistan to wage jihad after the September 11 attacks.
