The US killed five Taliban fighters in its first Predator strike in Khyber. Taliban fighters disguised as policemen kidnapped 57 people in Kurram. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Balochistan distributed threatening letters to schools in Baluchistan. The leader of the Jamaat-i-Islami called for negotiations with the Taliban.

The Pakistani Taliban threatened to carry out more attacks in the US. Security forces killed 16 Lashkar-e-Islam fighters and detained 51 more in Khyber, and killed seven Taliban fighters in Arakzai. The North Waziristan Taliban said it would maintain its peace agreement with the government.

Security forces killed 10 Lashkar-e-Islam fighters in Khyber and detained a suspect in the failed Times Square bomb attack. An anti-terrorism court acquitted nine suspects accused of killing a senior Army general and seven others in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi.

The Taliban killed two “US spies” in North Waziristan, two people in an attack on a NATO fuel tanker in Chaman, and five civilians in in attacks in Peshawar. The military claimed 20 Taliban were detained in Kala Dhaka; elders said only tribesmen were detained.

A pair of US airstrikes in North Waziristan killed 21 Taliban fighters. Security forces killed 11 Taliban fighters in Arakzai and a suspect in the murder of an Iranian consular official in Peshawar. The US is considering designating the Pakistani Taliban as a terrorist entity.

Nine Pakistani soldiers, including two officers, and 37 Taliban fighters were killed in fighting Arakzai. Tribal police foiled a Taliban attempt to blow up a school in Khyber. Intelligence agencies said law enforcement agencies in Punjab may be the target of attacks.
