Jihadi who helped train 7/7 bomber freed by US after just five years

A suicide bomber wounded three soldiers in Malakand. A court issued a warrant for former President Pervez Musharraf for involvement in the murder of Benazir Bhutto. The US demanded full immunity for a consular official detained after killing two people in Lahore.

Security forces killed 11 Taliban fighters in Swat and detained a suicide bomber in Tank. The Taliban executed five people in Mardan. Pakistan will detain a US consular official for an additional 14 days; the US has demanded his release.

A teenage suicide bomber killed 31 Pakistani Army recruits at a military base in Mardan; the Taliban claimed the attack. The military successfully test-fired a cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons.


Italian judge orders former Gitmo detainee freed

A former Gitmo detainee convicted of terrorism-related charges was freed from an Italian jail on Monday. Adel Ben Mabrouk, a Tunisian who lived in Italy for much of the 1990s, was a member of a known al Qaeda network in Italy prior to his detention at Guantanamo. Mabrouk was captured after fleeing the Tora Bora Mountains in late 2001.

The Taliban killed one civilian in a bombing in Charsadda. Security forces detained a female suicide bomber and five other people in Bajaur. Three US congressmen threatened to suspend aid to Pakistan if a consular official is not freed from custody.

The Taliban killed two soldiers and a policeman in IED attacks in Bannu and Peshawar, and bombed 13 trucks, including four NATO fuel tankers in Peshawar. A US inspector general report said USAID has not shown that more than $4 billion in funds for Pakistan has been properly spent.
