Eleven people were killed in a bombing at a market in the capital of Abuja. Police arrested 92 suspected members of the People Committed to the Prophet’s Teachings for Propagation and Jihad (formerly Boko Haram) during raids in Borno state.

The People Committed to the Prophet’s Teachings for Propagation and Jihad (formerly Boko Haram) killed seven people yesterday in an attack on a bus at a bus station in the Dala area of Maiduguri. The attack is the latest since Christmas Eve and Day attacks in Jos killed more than 80 people.

The People Committed to the Prophet’s Teachings for Propagation and Jihad (formerly Boko Haram) claimed it carried out the series of bombings that targeted Christians in Jos on Dec. 24 and 25. The terror group said it would “start avenging the atrocities committed against Muslims in those areas, and the country in general.”

Christians and Muslims fought in the streets of Jos after attacks against Christians took place on Christmas Eve and Day. Buildings were torched and 95 people were reported to have been seriously wounded. A curfew has been imposed.

The death toll in the Christmas Eve bombings in Jos rose to 32. Six Christians were killed in attacks on two churches in Maiduguri. Boko Haram is suspected of carrying out the attacks.

At least eight people were killed and dozens more were wounded in five bombings in the city of Jos. Boko Haram had issued letters last week threatening to attack Christians in the state of Plateau.

Eight suspected Boko Haram members were arrested by Nigerian authorities in Niger state. A tip-off by civilians in the city of Minna led to the arrests of the eight men who were discovered with knives, cutlasses, and various arms.

Two worshipers were killed and one wounded by Boko Haram Islamists during an attack at a mosque during Friday prayers in the northeastern city of Maiduguri. Two gunmen driving a motorcycle taxi indiscriminately shot into a Wahabist mosque. The radical group considers Wahabism heretical.

Suspected Boko Haram members killed a Nigerian soldier and wounded another in Borno state. The two soldiers were eating at a restaurant in Maiduguri when men armed with Kalashnikov rifles fired at the soldiers from their motorbike.

Authorities have begun to deport over 700 immigrants in the north that they suspect could be susceptible to recruitment by Boko Haram. The security crackdown caused by fears of immigrants joining Boko Haram has led the government to expel migrants back to Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

Boko Haram is demanding an amnesty offer similar to the one given to MEND by the federal government. Boko Haram, speaking through an anonymous spokesman, threatened to “continue with these (killings) and we have our targets” unless their demands are met. Boko Haram fighters shot and killed a police officer as he was manning a checkpoint in the northern state of Bauchi. The Boko Haram insurgency has spread to three provinces in the far north.

Six suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Gulani police station in northern Yobe state. Police officers fended off the attackers after one gunman was killed. At least three police officers were wounded in the attack.

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen killed a local chief in the northern city of Bauchi. Neighborhood chief Tukur Ahmad was killed in front of his home after attending Friday prayers at the local mosque. The Nigerian army has been deployed to Maiduguri in an attempt to halt the escalating violence.
