Boko Haram is suspected of assassinating the cleric.
Boko Haram has claimed credit for a series of bombings and also said some were carried out by sympathizers and recruits in the military. The most deadly blast , which killed 14 people, took place at a barracks in Bauchi.

A group of 70 heavily armed “Islamic militants” killed four policemen and two civilians during attacks on two police stations and a bank in Maiduguri. Authorities believe Boku Haram executed the attacks in Maiduguri.
Boko Haram, a radical Islamist group with ties to al Qaeda, has rejected an amnesty deal offered by the governor of Borno. A Boko Haram spokesman said the group does not recognize democracy.

At least 13 people have been killed and dozens more injured in election-related bombings in Suleja and Maiduguri. For months, Boko Haram has been assassinating politicians and security personnel in Maiduguri, and election violence now seems worst there.
Eight people were killed in a bombing at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Suleja. No group has claimed the attack, but Boko Haram has carried out other attacks against election officials.
