Boko Haram claimed credit for murdering a former deputy chief of police in Kano. The US continues to consider placing Boko Haram on its list of designated terrorist entires.

Nineteen people were killed during fighting between security forces and Boko Haram in Maiduguri and Kano. The heaviest fighting took place in the neighborhood of Lawan Bukar in Maiduguri, where explosions were reported yesterday.

“Gunmen” killed a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police and two associates in Kano. Explosions and gunfire rocked a neighborhood in Maiduguri as security forces cordoned the neighborhood.

Boko Haram claimed credit for yesterday’s suicide attack on a church in Bauchi that killed 15 people. “Today God gave us victory by launching a suicide attack on a church in Yelwa neighborhood in Bauchi city,” that statement said.

Boko Haram is suspected of killing a Muslim cleric and a prison guard in Potiskum in Yobe state. The Joint Task Force said Boko Haram is plotting to conduct attacks on May 29 in Borno.

Police arrested two suspected Boko Haram fighters who were plotting to bomb government offices in Abuja, including the Police Headquarters, and the Federal Ministry of Information and Communication. Police also arrested a suspect in the bombings at the Bayero University in Kano.

The federal government called for Boko Haram to join peace talks and suggested a ceasefire. Three explosions were reported in Maiduguri.

A Boko Haram suicide bomber killed 11 people and wounded more than 20 in an attack on a police convoy in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state. A senior police official who was traveling in the convoy escaped unhurt.

An assault on Christian worshipers at a university campus in Kano killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens more. The attackers, who arrived on motorbikes, are suspected to be members of the al Qaeda-linked Boko Haram. A second attack today, at a church in Maiduguri, killed five people, including a pastor.
