Malaysian police arrested a suspected Jemaah Islamiyah recruiter after he returned from Thailand. Mohamad Fadzullah Abdul Razak, a 28-year-old engineer, has allegedly attempted to recruit students in his former university in the south of the country. He was arrested under the controversial Internal Security Act that permits indefinite detention without trial.

The police announced that 10 foreigners arrested over the past six months for attempting to recruit university students for the al Qaeda-linked, Indonesian-based terror group Jemaah Islamiyah have been deported. Between 20 to 30 students were monitored by police as they were approached by the extremist foreigners about joining the terror network.

Ten suspects linked to the Christmas Day plot to blow up an airliner over Detroit were detained in Kuala Lumpur. The 10 men, who are from Malaysia, Syria, Nigeria, Jordan, and Yemen, are thought to be linked to Nigerian bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who is in US custody.
