Police have recaptured one of the five Fatah al Islam members who escaped from the Roumieh prison. Two prison officers and nine guards were detained. Authorities believe the escapees had inside help.
Five prisoners, several of whom are members of the al Qaeda-linked Fatah al Islam, escaped from the Roumieh prison near Beirut. Four of the prisoners are Lebanese citizens and one is a Sudanese citizen.
Two men were killed while attempting to plant a bomb on a car in a suburb north of Beirut. The car is owned by the son of a judge. No group has been linked to the blast.
Members of the al Qaeda-linked Jund al Sham clashed with Fatah security forces in the Ein al Hilwah camp. Jund al Sham is said to have attempted to assassinate Fatah’s chief of security in the camp.

Five French peacekeepers who serve under the command of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon were wounded in an IED attack near Sidon. The attack is similar to another bombing that wounded six Italian soldiers near Sidon in May.
