Several photos have been released by the semi-official Iranian news agency Fars showing Qassem Soleimani on the battlefield near Tikrit. Other photos circulating on social media show the leader of the Qods Force with various Shiite militias taking part in the current offensive in central Iraq.
The jihadist group taunted the Iraqi military and Iranian-backed Shiite militias for claiming to have taken territory outside of Tikrit.

Massive columns of Shiite militas, including some groups that are listed by the US as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, have been leading the fight in Tikrit. Qods Force commander Qassem Soleimani has been spotted at the front lines.
The Islamic State claimed that Abu Dawoud al Amriki executed a suicide attack against Iraqi troops and Iranian-backed Shiite militias as they massed in the central city of Samarra in preparation for the newly launched offensive in Tikrit.

In a video released by the jihadist group, its fighters are shown attacking near al Baghdadi in Iraq’s Anbar province. While it is unclear when the footage was shot, fighting is still raging for control of the town close to the al Asad airbase where over 300 US Marines are currently stationed.
