A former Iranian deputy defense minister with knowledge of the nuclear and military establishment has gone missing in Turkey. The IAEA thinks Iran may have halted its nuclear program. Iran looks to strengthen military ties with India.

The US will hold direct talks with Iran if it suspends its nuclear program. President Ahmadinejad vowed to continue enrichment of uranium. Western countries are considering options on sanctions.

Iran killed 17 ‘rebels’ during a battle in the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan. The government accused the US of fomenting the violence. An IRGC helicopter was shot down, apparently with a SA-7, killing two IRGC commanders and 8 soldiers.

The IAEA report states “‘Iran has not suspended its enrichment related activities’ and was continuing a variety of enrichment activities.” Iran and Russia are developing Syria’s antitank, surface to air, and SCUD-D missile capabilities.

President Ahmadinejad rejected the UN calls for suspending uranium enrichment just one day before the deadline expires. Russia claimed Iran is two months behind payments on the Bushehr nuclear facility. The purported Zahedan bomber was executed in public, just days after the attack.

Iran denies Muqtada al-Sadr is in country. The nuclear enrichment program will not be stopped, according to spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini. The IRGC will hold military exercises just prior to the UN decision on Iran’s nuclear program.

The US Treasury Department has sanctioned three Iranian companies for WMD proliferation. Japan has also imposed sanctions for nuclear activities. Iran is involved in Yemen’s civil war. Clashes and bombings continue in the southeastern city of Zahedan, where 11 IRGC soldiers were killed two days ago.
