Parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani threatened the US with suicide attacks in response to US incursions into Syria and Pakistan. “The US method and conduct, expressed by this aggression, will only be stopped by a clear-cut and unexpected response, whose grounds were set by the martyr Hussein Fahmida,” he said. Fahmida was a suicide bomber.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said hatred of the US runs deep. Iran opened a new naval base east of the Strait of Hormuz; an admiral said Iran could “prevent the entry of any enemy naval units” into the Persian Gulf. President Ahmadinejad blamed the US for the world’s economic crisis.

The deputy commander of the Basij militia said Iran is arming and supporting “freedom armies” in the Middle East. “Today, not only our armed forces are self sufficient but the freedom armies of the region get part of their weaponry from us,” said Hossein Hamedani. President Ahmadinejad is reportedly suffering from exhaustion.

President Ahmadinejad railed against the proposed Iraq-US security pact, saying the US wanted to “pillage” the country. The Export Development Bank of Iran denied any involvement in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction after the US Treasury Department designation.
