Iranian and Iraqi forces continue a standoff over a disputed oil well in Iraq. Protesters and government forces clashed in southern Tehran. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Iran would allow Osama bin Laden’s daughter to return to Saudi Arabia if her identity is confirmed.

A Russian diplomat said his country is not convinced Iran’s nuclear program has a military component. The Iranian defense minister said Iran would deploy Iranian-made satellites. Security forces killed two people during a melee at an execution, banned memorials for an opposition cleric, and detained a former government spokesman.

Police and Basij militiamen assaulted protestors in Isfahan. Basij fighters also surrounded the office and home of two influential clerics and vandalized the property. The US will likely push for sanctions on Iran in January. Osama bin Laden’s daughter is hiding in the Saudi embassy in Tehran.
