Police detained an 18-year-old in the southern city of Toulon suspected of planning a revenge attack on the French magazine that recently published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. The suspect had said on Facebook that he would cut the throat of anyone he could find at the magazine.

A TV station yesterday broadcast audio clips of recordings between Toulouse shooter Mohammed Merah and police negotiators during the siege before his death in March. In the recordings, Merah claimed links with al Qaeda members in Pakistan.
Police arrested a 35-year-old Tunisian suspected of financing and recruiting for al Qaeda, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Fatah al Islam, and the Islamic State of Iraq. The suspect, a website administrator from the southern city of Toulon, was detained after a yearlong investigation.
Police shot and arrested a man who had seized four hostages at a bank not far from the home of Toulouse shooter Mohammed Merah. The unnamed suspect is said to be of North African origin. He claimed to be affiliated with al Qaeda and to be acting for religious reasons. The hostages were unharmed.
