Police in Belgium detained 14 suspected Muslim terrorists during raids in 16 locations in Brussels and one in Liege. The arrests came just hours before the beginning of a European Union summit. One of the men is a suspected suicide bomber.

Spanish police arrested eight cell members of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb during separate raids in Pamplona, Barcelona, and Castellon. The eight men are Algerian nationals and are accused of financing terror operations in Algeria. Ten other suspects were detained for supporting the cell.
