Arsala Rahmani was gunned down in Kabul. He was a senior member of the Afghan High Peace Council who served as a deputy education minister during the Taliban’s rule.
The suicide bomber was led to Burhanuddin Rabbani for peace talks by a reconciled Taliban minister who has been described as “a trusted emissary.”
The Afghan High Peace Council, set up by President Hamid Karzai in 2010, reportedly wants to speak with four top Taliban commanders held at Guantanamo. All four allegedly had significant ties to al Qaeda prior to their detention.
