5 transferred Gitmo detainees served al Qaeda, leaked files allege

The Defense Department announced the transfer of five Guantanamo detainees yesterday. According to leaked threat assessments prepared by Joint Task Force Guantanamo, all five served al Qaeda. Four of the five were deemed either “high” or “medium to high” risks.

Fazle-ur-Rahman Khalil, Harakat-ul-Mujahideen’s founder and leader, signed Osama bin Laden’s infamous 1998 fatwa that declared war on the US and Israel. HUM was added to the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations 18 years ago.

Security officials said that the Taliban killed three soldiers in IED attacks, and 13 Taliban fighters died in premature detonations in Sar-i-Pul and Helmand. Security officials also accused the Lashkar-e-Taiba of launching the suicide attack that targeted presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah.
