US Predators killed nine “militants” in an airstrike in North Waziristan. Abu Zaid al Iraqi, al Qaeda’s financier in Pakistan, and several Punjabis are thought to have been killed in yesterday’s Predator strike in South Waziristan. A US consular official in Pakistani custody for killing two gunmen is a CIA officer.
Predators hit a compound in the Miramshah area, which is under the control of the Haqqani Network. The strike is the second in two days.

The US ended a 27-day-gap in Predator strikes, killing five “militants” in an attack in South Waziristan. Security forces claimed to have killed 28 Taliban fighters while repelling attacks on outposts in Mohmand and Arakzai.

A teenage suicide bomber in a school uniform evaded detection at several checkpoints at a military base in Khyber Pakhtunkwha province and detonated his vest in the midst of a crowd of army recruits.
The Taliban have launched 18 major suicide attacks and terror assaults on military, police, and intelligence installations throughout Pakistan since March 2009.

The presentation covers several historical themes, including Afghanistan’s history of foreign invasion, how leaders gain legitimacy, center-periphery relations, and the Afghanistan-Pakistan relationship.
