The Taliban and al Qaeda-linked group said the attack was executed to avenge the death of Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan’s deputy emir, who was killed in a US drone strike in May.

Chiheb Esseghaier, who along with Raed Jaser is being tried in Canada for the Via rail terror plot, wants sealed evidence in the case to be made public except for that on “private life inside the home.” Some of the sealed information deals with witness identities and wiretaps.

Indonesia

Members of the Detachment 88 antiterrorism squad ambushed four militants in Tulungagung in East Java province, killing two who fired at security forces and detaining the other two. The suspects were allegedly linked to terrorism activities in Java, Poso, Bali, and north Sumatra.

Thailand

Two teachers were killed and three other people were injured by a roadside bomb detonated by militants in Narathiwat. Among the more than 5,000 people killed since the start of an Islamic insurgency in southern Thailand in 2004 are over 150 teachers.

Afghanistan

The military claimed that 35 Taliban fighters were killed during an offensive in the northern province of Faryab. The Taliban killed three civilians in an IED attack in Badghis.
