A court in Tatarstan ruled that the writings of Faizrakhman Sattarov, the 84-year-old founder of a banned radical Islamic sect, “incite interreligious hatred and contradict traditional Islamic teachings.” The Faizrakhman sect, which rejects Russian law, was discovered last year living in an eight-level catacomb underneath the leader’s house.


Abdullah Azzam Brigades official claims rocket attack on Israel

An official from the Abdullah Azzam Brigades alleged on Twitter that fighters from the jihadist group were responsible for firing four rockets from Lebanon towards Israel. Israeli officials have said their “initial assessment” is that “global jihadists” were responsible.




Treasury designates 4 members of Hezbollah’s leadership

The Treasury Department issued designations against four Hezbollah operatives for their role in a variety of terror activities across the Middle East. At least one of those designated is a member of Hezbollah’s Political Council.


2 Iranians tied to Bangkok terror plot sentenced

A Thai court sentenced two Iranian nationals involved in a February 2012 plot to attack Israeli diplomats in Thailand. Saeid Moradi was given a life sentence, while Mohammad Khazaei received a 15-year sentence. A number of suspects remain at large.


Nigeria

Boko Haram insurgents dressed in Nigerian military uniforms opened fire on civilians near the border with Cameroon, killing four. The attack is believed to be a reprisal for civilian support of the “Civilian JTF,” a government-backed vigilante group formed to fight Boko Haram in northern communities.


France

Foreign Minister Fabius said that if allegations are true that regime forces in Syria used chemical weapons in a recent attack in Damascus, the international community would have to react “with force” in Syria, but also said there was “no question of sending troops on the ground.” He added that there were “possibilities for responding.”

Al Qaeda in Iraq killed seven people, including an Awakening leader, an Army officer, and two Kurdish soldiers in attacks throughout the country. Insurgnets also bombed an oil pipeline. Security forces detained two prisoners who escaped from Abu Ghraib during a raid in Rashidiya.
