US drone strike kills 3 Haqqani commanders in Pakistan’s Hangu district

Three Haqqani Network commanders are reported to have been killed in a drone strike at a seminary in a settled area of Pakistan’s northwest that appears to have targeted Sirajuddin Haqqani, the operational commander of the Haqqani Network. The strike is the first outside of the tribal areas in four years.

Yemen

Three policemen and three al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed in a clash in the city of Shahr in Hadramout province. Another report indicated that four soldiers were killed during the clash in Shahr, and female AQAP fighters thought to be from Saudi Arabia were detained.


Nigeria

The government extended emergency rule in the northeastern states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe, in an effort to crush the Boko Haram insurgency. In Kano state, Nigerian forces killed two Boko Haram militants and recovered weapons and ammunition.
