Police are questioning a Canadian of Pakistani origin in connection to a bomb threat that forced an airliner traveling from Canada to Karachi, Pakistan, to make an emergency landing in Sweden. No bomb or explosives have been found on the airplane.



‘Lady al Qaeda’ sentenced to 86 years in prison

aafia-siddiqui-thumb.jpgAafia Siddiqui, dubbed “Lady al Qaeda” in the press, was sentenced to 86 years in prison on Thursday. Siddiqui was part of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s network and participated in plotting against the US Homeland.

The US sentenced Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years in prison for attempting to murder US federal agents while in custody in Afghanistan. Siddiqui is an MIT-trained Pakistani neuroscientist linked to al Qaeda. She was carrying instructions to make deadly chemicals when she was captured.

Bekkay Harrach, a German national who is a senior member of al Qaeda’s external operations branch may have been killed in a US Predator strike in August that targeted a Haqqani Network compound. Harrach’s death has not been confirmed.


US strike kills 16 in South Waziristan

The strike is the first that hit in an area under the control of “good Taliban” leader Mullah Nazir since July 25. Nazir’s aide is rumored to have been killed in the strike.

Tajikistan’s defense ministry said foreign terrorists were involved in the ambush in the Rasht Valley that killed upwards of 40 soldiers. “In addition to Tajik citizens, the terrorist group also contained militants and mercenaries including citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Chechnya in Russia,” a spokesman said.
