Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb has joined other jihadist groups in releasing a statement praising Hakeemullah Mehsud, the Pakistani Taliban commander killed earlier this month. Ansar al Sharia Tunisia posted the message on one of its official Facebook pages.
The Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an al Qaeda-linked group, has claimed responsibility for twin suicide attacks on the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
The strike took place in an eastern province of Yemen where AQAP has been regrouping over the past year.
The attack occurred as President Karzai invited the Taliban and their allies to join the Loya Jirga to discuss the US-Afghan Bilateral Security Agreement.

Like AQAP’s statement on Mehsud’s death, Jaish al Ummah praised Hakeemullah and “the tribes of Waziristan” for fighting the “crusader enemy” in Afghanistan.

Nasiruddin Haqqani, a top leader in the Haqqani Network, was gunned down in Islamabad, Pakistan. The Ministry of Interior claimed that 28 Taliban fighters were killed during operations throughout the country. Tribal leaders and clerics oppose the Bilateral Security Agreement with the US.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula offered its condolences for the death of Hakeemullah Mehsud, the former emir of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan. Five people were killed and seven more were wounded in a grenade attack in Damar.
