Security forces detained 28 al Qaeda and Taliban facilitators as well as 116 Afghans during the security operation in Khyber. “There was no resistance at all from the Taliban side as they seem to have gone underground,” local residents said. The Taliban murdered a “US spy” in North Waziristan.

The Taliban welcomed the troop pullout form the northwest and said negotiations with the military are underway. The military said 34 Taliban were killed during a four-day operation in Swat. The Taliban is enforcing sharia in lower Arakzai. Security forces and the Taliban clashed in Khyber; no casualties were reported.
