ISAF targets al Qaeda leader in Kunar

ISAF has conducted three airstrikes against al Qaeda leaders in the Watahpur district in Kunar over the past five weeks. Two of the strikes killed al Qaeda’s second in command in Afghanistan, and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s senior leader in Kunar.

ISAF killed the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s leader in Kunar and several insurgents in an airstrike in the province. The Taliban killed four civilians and two policemen in bombings in Helmand and Paktia, and poisoned 53 schoolgirls in Sar-i-Pul.


Key Mumbai plotter arrested in Saudi Arabia

Indian authorities arrested Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, one of the Pakistan-based handlers of the Lashkar-e-Taiba assault team that conducted the 2008 Mumbai attacks. After a three-year manhunt, Ansari, a.k.a. Abu Hamza and Abu Jindal, was found in Saudi Arabia, where he was recruiting for new attacks.





ISAF kills IMU, al Qaeda-linked Taliban commanders in airstrikes

The Taliban commanders killed in Nangarhar “facilitated the movement of foreign fighters across the border from Pakistan into Afghanistan.” The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan commander was involved in the kidnapping of four aid workers in Badakhshan.
