Bill Roggio’s Embed in Iraq, January 2007

In January of 2007, Bill embedded with a joint Marine and Army Military Transition Team in the Habbaniyah region. The 3/3-1 MTT is led by Major Owen West, the son of author Bing West, and is partnered with the the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division of the Iraqi Army (3/3-1 IA). The Iraqi unit calls itself the “Snake Eaters,” and patrols the cities of Khalidaya, Albu Fleis, Sadiqaya, and the Civil and Coolie Camps. Bill patrolled and conducted day and night raids with the Snake Eaters in Khalidaya, Albu Fleis and Sadiqaya.
