The Ansar al Din Front in Syria has released a statement mourning the death of Harith al Nadhari, a sharia official in al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula who was killed in a US drone strike on Jan. 31. The statement is further evidence that Ansar al Din is, at a minimum, closely allied with al Qaeda’s international network.
Jihadists aligned with al Qaeda’s international network mourned the death of Harith bin Ghazi al Nadhari, a senior AQAP sharia official, shortly after AQAP confirmed that he had been killed in a US drone strike.
The Islamic State claims that an American hostage was killed during Jordanian airstrikes earlier today. However, the statement could very well be a propaganda ploy, at least in part.
Jordan has reportedly released Abu Muhammad al Maqdisi. The move was celebrated by al Qaeda jihadists on social media, including those belonging to the Al Nusrah Front, al Qaeda’s official branch in Syria.

Ansar al Sharia Libya released a set of propaganda photos in late January that are intended to demonstrate the group’s authority over areas in and around Benghazi. The photos purportedly show a police station and a convoy of security vehicles under the group’s control. However, forces loyal to General Haftar also claim to control much of the city.
The Al Nusrah Front has taken the fight to the Hazm Movement in the areas surrounding Aleppo. Hazm is one of the few rebel groups to receive Western aid and arms in the Syrian war.
Sharia officials from both Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and the Al Nusrah Front, two official branches of al Qaeda, have signed a statement saying that the Islamic State’s ‘caliphate’ is invalid. The statement is addressed to the Caucasus jihadists who announced their allegiance to Abu Bakr al Baghdadi in December.

Gunmen assaulted the Corinthia hotel in Tripoli early this morning. According to some accounts, a car bomb was detonated outside of the hotel during the attack.

The story of how Ali Saleh Kahlah al Marri was first identified and arrested became a key part of the dispute between Democrats on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the CIA. Al Marri, who was recently released from a US prison, admitted that he was an al Qaeda sleeper agent.

A newly released video shows Amedy Coulibaly, who killed a French policewoman and attacked a kosher market in Paris, swearing allegiance to the Islamic State. Coulibaly says he worked in concert with the Kouachi brothers, who attacked Charlie Hebdo’s offices and claimed allegiance to al Qaeda.
One of the brothers responsible for the attack on Charlie Hebdo claimed to have met with Anwar al Awlaki. The other may have met with Awlaki as well. Meanwhile, another terrorist responsible for the siege of a kosher market claimed he was a member of the Islamic State.
One of the chief suspects in the attack on Charlie Hebdo reportedly received training at an al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) camp in 2011.
Two of the suspects are brothers who recently returned from Syria. One of the brothers was previously convicted and sentenced to prison in France for recruiting jihadists to fight for al Qaeda in Iraq.

A top al Qaeda operative known as Abu Anas al Libi has died in US custody while awaiting trial. Several documents recovered in Osama bin Laden’s compound discuss al Libi after he was released from Iranian custody in 2010. These files should be released to the public.
Rustam Asilderov, the former head of the Islamic Caucasus Emirate’s Dagestan province, swore allegiance to the Islamic State’s Abu Bakr al Baghdadi earlier this month. The move by Asilderov and other jihadists drew harsh criticism from their former superiors.
