Eleven members of an alleged al Qaeda-linked terrorist network were arrested in Morocco this week after plans for attacks in that North African country and in Belgium were uncovered. Investigators said the terror cell was affiliated to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and recruited volunteers to fight in Iraq.

The Taliban™s shadow governor and police chief for Ghor province were killed along with four other Taliban fighters in a shootout with police. A Taliban suicide car bomber detonated near a Coalition convoy in western Kabul killing himself and wounding several civilians nearby. Australian forces in Afghanistan have been accused of mistreating Taliban detainees.


Algeria

Algerian soldiers arrested a group of 15 people suspected of joining a local al Qaeda cell in Blida province. The French Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories visited Algeria to help strengthen security relations between the two countries.

A civilian helicopter contracted by Coalition forces made an emergency landing in Kunar province after being struck by heavy insurgent fire. The chopper landed safely at a Coalition outpost. Three accidental explosions in the Afghan capital have left nine people dead and more than 20 wounded, including some counternarcotics police.

Sidi Ould Sidna, the suspected al Qaeda-linked killer of four French tourists in Mauritania, who escaped from Nouakchott’s main courthouse earlier this month, has been recaptured by Mauritanian authorities.
