A pair of al Qaeda in Iraq suicide bombers killed 16 people in an attack that targeted Turkmen in Tuz Khurmatu. Another suicide bomber killed 10 Iraqis in Mosul. Six more Iraqis were killed in attacks in Karbala. Security forces captured the head of an al Qaeda assassination cell in Mosul.
The suicide assault team penetrated the perimeter at one of the most secured areas in Kabul and clashed with Afghan and US forces for nearly two hours before being defeated.
The Taliban denied reports that it lowered its flag and removed the name “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” from its “political office” in Qatar. Five policemen defected to the Taliban in Zabul.

Al Qaeda killed three policemen in a suicide assault in Hawija and eight other Iraqis in other attacks throughout the country. Two policemen and six al Qaeda fighters were killed in a clash in Al Khor in Anbar province on June 21.

Shabaab claimed it killed five “invaders from Sierra Leon” during an ambush on a convoy near Dhobley. Shabaab also claimed it killed five “apostates” in an attack on a base outside of Baidoa. The reports have not been confirmed.

The al Qaeda leader was targeted in a raid in the Watahpur district, a known hub for the terror group, on June 6.
