ISIS executes 20 Iraqi soldiers

Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham fighters dressed in military uniforms captured 20 soldiers after ambushing their convoy, and shot them in the head shortly afterward.


Afghanistan

The Afghan military claimed it killed 63 Taliban fighters, including 20 Pakistanis, and wounded more than 40 during an operation in the Gilan district in Ghazni province. Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed 19 people in a series of bombings and attacks in Baghdad, Dujail, Dawr, and Tarmiyah. Six of those were killed by a suicide bomber in Dujail. Awakening fighters discovered the bodies of 11 taxi drivers who were executed.


Yemen

Security forces killed seven al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters during a shootout in Abyan and Shabwa provinces. Gunmen killed three soldiers in Sana’a. A CIA officer and a US military officer killed two kidnappers in Sana’a last month.


Iraq

The Iraqi military has launched an offensive to retake the city of Fallujah from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham and allied tribes. Thirteen civilians have been killed in the military’s artillery attacks. The ISIS killed three people in an IED attack at a wedding in Baghdad.


Yemen

Four soldiers and three al Qaeda fighters were killed during AQAP attacks on two security checkpoints in Sana’a. Three people were killed as AQAP ambushed the defense minister’s convoy in Abyan. Security forces killed a Saudi AQAP fighter and captured two French fighters, who were identified as Mourad Abdulla Abad and Taha al Issawi.



Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed 12 people, including two soldiers, in bombings and attacks in Baghdad, Madain, and Yusafiyah. An ISIS suicide bomber killed seven Iraqi soldiers in Hit. The ISIS is also operating secret prisons in Anbar province.


Yemen

Security forces killed an al Qaeda operative thought to be behind kidappings and murders of foreigners and others in the capital. The military has entered the AQAP stronghold of Azzan in Shabwa and killed two AQAP operatives. The US closed down its embassy in Sana’a due to security concerns.



Afghanistan

The Taliban killed 10 policemen in two bombings yesterday in the western province of Herat, and nine members of a family in an IED attack. Security forces killed 10 Taliban fighters during operations in Logar, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Kunduz, and Herat.




Yemen

The Yemeni military claimed that it has retaken control of the district of Al Mahfad in Abyan province. The district was under al Qaeda control for more than two years. AQAP bombed the district headquarters before withdrawing.


Iraq

Iraqi troops killed 20 Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham fighters in Al Sajar near Fallujah and a suicide bomber in Mosul. The ISIS killed nine people in attacks in Baghdad, Fallujah, and Tuz Khurmatu, two policemen in Hit, and four soldiers north of Hillah.


Yemen

A Frenchman who worked for the European Union mission in the capital of Sana’a was gunned down by unidentified assailants. Two other Frenchmen and a Yemeni national were wounded in the ambush.



Afghanistan

The military claimed that more than 20 Taliban fighters were killed during operations in nine provinces, and an additional 10 fighters were killed in a premature detonation in Kandahar. The Taliban killed three people in attacks in Kandahar, Kabul, and Kunduz.


Yemen

An al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula suicide bomber killed six soldiers and wounded 20 in an attack at a checkpoint in Shabwa province. Yemeni officials claimed that 37 AQAP fighters, including “Saudis, Afghans, Somalis and Chechens and other nationalities,” were killed during military operations in Shabwa.








Afghanistan

The Taliban killed five soldiers and five Afghan Local Police officers in attacks in Paktia, Laghman, and Jawzjan, and two ISAF troops in the east. The Taliban claimed it shot down a US Air Force AC-130 gunship.


Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham claimed credit for two suicide attacks that targeted security forces as they voted in Baghdad and Kirkuk. Thirty-eight Iraqis are reported to have been killed in attacks throughout the country.


Pakistan

The Taliban killed an Army officer and two soldiers in an IED attack in an area between North and South Waziristan. Police claimed to have killed a Taliban commander who engineered the prison break in Dera Ismail Khan in 2013.


Afghanistan

Mullah Adbul Qayoum Zakir, a former detainee at Guantanamo Bay, has resigned as the Taliban’s military leader due to “ill health.” Security forces killed five Taliban fighters, including Pakistanis, in Paktika province. Abdullah Abdullah claimed he won the first round on the presidential elections.
