Iraq

US strike aircraft destroyed three Islamic State armored personnel carriers and a technical in four airstrikes in the Sinjar Mountains. The Peshmerga is said to have regained control of Gwair, Makhmour, and Zumar. The military claimed it killed 16 Islamic State fighters in Tikrit.


Afghanistan

A suicide bomber killed four civilians in an attack that targeted an ISAF convoy in Kabul. ISAF reportedly killed 21 Taliban fighters in an airstrike in Marja in Helmand province. The Pakistani military killed two civilians in a a missile attack in Kunar.


Yemen

Yesterday, US drones killed three suspected al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters in a strike in the Wadi Abida area of Marib. AQAP launched attacks against government buildings in Lahj; an intelligence official was gunned down in Huta.





Iraq

The US military launched airstrikes against Islamic State convoys and mortar positions near Irbil. President Obama authorized airstrikes against the Islamic State if the group threatened the Kurdish capital or impeded humanitarian operations in the Sinjar Mountains. The Iraqi military claimed it killed 13 Islamic State fighters near Baqubah.


Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters kidnapped 14 soldiers who were traveling on a bus from Hadramout to Sana’a, and executed them. The military sent reinforcements to the town of Qatn in Hadramout after heavy fighting in the area. AQAP threatened to “punish” prosecuters and other legal officials who rule against the group.




Afghanistan

Ten policemen in Kunduz defected to the Taliban. The Taliban killed six policemen in Uruzgan. The military claimed that 18 Taliban fighters, three policemen, and three deminers were killed during fighting in Paktia, Ghor, and Zabul. Iraq

The Islamic State took control of several towns outside of Mosul, including Qaraqosh, Tal Kayf, Bartella, and Karamlesh after Kurdish forces retreated. The US is considering launching airstrikes against the Islamic State or dropping supplies to refugees fleeing the fighting. Yemen

The Yemeni military said it killed 25 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters over the pst two days while battling to protect the city of Seyoun in Hadramout province. Yesterday, AQAP fighters killed five soldiers in an ambush in Habban in Shabwa province.


Iraq

The Iraqi military killed 60 people in an airstrike on an Islamic State sharia court in Mosul; it is unclear how many civilians were killed. Security forces claimed to have killed an Islamic State commander and eight fighters in Anbar. Insurgents killed 32 people in attacks in Baghdad and four policemen in Jurf al Sahkar.



Yemen

A Yemeni military official claimed that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is in effective control of the eastern province of Hadramout. “Local authorities in Hadramout are non-existent and Al Qaeda is running it.” A senior general denied the report.





Afghanistan

An Afghan soldier killed a US general and wounded 14 others, including a US, German, and Afghan general, in an attack at a training facility in Kabul. The Taliban killed five Afghan soldiers. The Interior Ministry claimed Afghan forces killed 33 Taliban fighters. ISAF reportedly killed four civilians in an airstrike in Herat.


Iraq

The military claimed it killed 50 Islamic State fighters in Dhuluiyah, 20 in Taji, and two more in Sinjar, and an Islamic State leader and five fighters in Mosul The military also claimed it retook control of the Barwana district in Anbar. Iraqi military reports have been unreliable.



Afghanistan

Locals claimed the military killed 16 civilians in a raid in Logar; Afghan officials said most of those killed were Taliban fighters. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters gunned down four policemen at a checkpoint in Ataq, the provincial capital of Shabwa in southern Yemen. Three civilians were killed as the military and tribes clashed in Marib province in central Yemen. Tribesmen were attempting to stop engineers from repairing pipeline that was sabotaged.
