Pakistan

US Predators killed four “militants” in North Waziristan. The Taliban destroyed 20 NATO fuel tankers in Quetta. The US apologized for a cross-border strike in Kurram that killed two Pakistani troops.


Afghanistan

Coalition forces killed the Taliban’s shadow governor for Faryab. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network members in Kandahar, Ghazni, Khost, Logar, Wardak, and Kunar. The Taliban killed two civilians in an IED attack in Zabul.


Kenya

Police arrested Sascha Alessandro Boettcher, a German national, during a raid in Mtwapa outside the coastal city of Mombasa. Boettcher, a recent convert to Islam, is suspected of traveling to Kenya in an attempt to join Shabaab, the al Qaeda-linked terror group in Somalia.


Iraq

Insurgents killed two civilians in attacks in Mosul. Security forces detained 14 wanted men in Basrah, seized two suicide belts in Baghdad, and disabled five IEDs in Maysan.


Russia

Sheikh at Tartousi told Muhannad, an Arab commander, to “either repent and obey Emir Abu Usman or leave Caucasus and go home.” Security forces killed Yerlan Yusupov, a Kazakh citizen, responsible for the murder of a police chief, an officer, and two civilians in Dagestan. Two female “accomplices” were also detained.




Yemen

AL Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula attacked two Western targets in the capital of Sana’a. A French contractor working for an Austrian gas company was shot by a security guard; and terrorists fired an RPG at a British embassy car, wounding three.

Pakistan

Pakistani customs officials stopped 152 NATO supply trucks from crossing the Chaman border into Afghanistan. Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an IED attack in North Waziristan. A teacher at the Jamia Binoria madrassa in Karachi who was associated with the Sipah-i-Sahab was murdered outside his home.


United States

Failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison, and during his hearing threatened more attacks. “Brace yourself, the war with Muslims has just begun,” he told the court. “The defeat of the U.S. is imminent, inshallah,” he said.


Iraq

The US ambassador to Iraq said that Muqtada al Sadr’s participation in an Iraqi government would be problematic for ties with Iraq. Insurgents killed a senior police commander and two women in Mosul. Security forces killed a suicide bomber in Diyala and detained an insurgent in Baghdad.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed a tribal leader in Takhar and eight civilians in Kandahar. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and members in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Khost, Paktika, Wardak, and Takhar.



Bangladesh

Police arrested three men, including a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba leader, during a raid in Dhaka. The commander, Khurram, a Pakistani citizen who is also known as Muhammad Selim, has been identified by other captured LeT operatives as the local leader of LeT.


Thailand

A Thai court rejected a US request to extradite Victor Bout, a Russian arms dealer known as the “Merchant of Death.” Bout has shipped arms to the Taliban, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Courts in Somalia.


Al Qaeda

Al Qaeda announced the death Sa’ad Mohammad al Shahri , an al Qaeda operative wanted by the Saudi government since 2005. Al Shahri, whose father was a colonel in the Saudi Army, was killed in a recent US airstrike in Afghanistan.


Tajikistan

Five soldiers were reported to have been killed during clashes with Islamist fighters in the Rasht district. Police killed one of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan fighters who escaped from a prison in Dushanbe in August; four escapees have been killed and seven have been captured.



Russia

Insurgents killed a village administration head and a local farm director in Dagestan. The bomb scare that forced a plane bound from Moscow to Grozny in Chechnya was a hoax.

India

Afghanistan

The Taliban killed four ISAF soldiers and three civilians in Kandahar, and nearly assassinated the deputy mayor of Kandahar city. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and members in Kandahar, Helmand, Khost, Zabul, Ghazni, Nimroz, and Faryab.


Iraq

Insurgents killed two policemen in an IED attack in Diyala and a TV cameraman in a bombing in Fallujah. Security forces detained 18 wanted men in Basrah. Iraq’s oil minister claimed the country has 143.1 billion barrels of oil in reserve.


Somalia

Thirteen people were killed during clashes between Somali and Shabaab fighters in Mogadishu. A Somali soldier killed a politician in Mogadishu.
