Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and fighters in Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, and Logar. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south.


Pakistan

The military killed eight Taliban fighters in artillery strikes in Arakzai. The Taliban killed two soldiers in IED attacks in South Waziristan and Hangu. A US court summoned the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate and the head of Lashkar-e-Taiba.


Iraq

Insurgents killed three civilians in an IED attack in Tal Afar and another civilian in a grenade attack in Mosul. An insurgent was killed in a premature detonation in Al Biaj northwest of Mosul.


Somalia

A Somali official said that NGOs are providing aid to Shabaab. Six African Union soldiers were arrested for opening fire on civilians in Mogadishu. A US court convicted five Somalis of piracy.


Yemen

Security officials claimed several Shabaab operatives have been detained in camps for Somali refugees in the south. Yemen’s Endowments Minister claimed Shia Houthis and al Qaeda were operating together to attack the state.


Iran

Supreme Leader Khamenei called the radical Basij militia a “clear, great and shining truth.” The EU urged the US to remove the People’s Mujahideen of Iran (MEK) from its list of terror organizations.

Tajikistan

Security forces captured two Islamist fighters, including a member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. The Islamists were detained in the Rasht Valley, where troops have been battling militants, on Nov. 14.


Insurgents killed an Army brigadier and five civilians in attacks in Baghdad, Tikrit, Fallujah, and Mosul. Security forces killed two terrorists in Mosul and detained five Qaeda fighters in Khanaqin.


Somalia

The commander of African Union forces in Somalia apologized for the deaths of two civilians during mortar strikes that targeted Shabaab in Mogadishu. A British warship destroyed a pirate skiff off the coast of Somalia.


Yemen

A suicide bomber killed 17 Shia Houthis in an attack on a religious procession in Al Jawf province. The Houthis accused the US and Israel of masterminding the attack.

ISAF and Afghan officials negotiated with an “impostor” who claimed he was senior Taliban commander Mullah Akhtar Mohammed Mansour, one of Mullah Omar’s top two deputies who ran the Quetta Shura. ISAF reportedly met with the impostor three times and paid him a large sum of money.

Iraq

Insurgents killed five civilians and an Iraqi soldier in attacks in Wasit, Baghdad, and Kirkuk. Insurgents also killed a US soldier in northern Iraq on Nov. 21. Security forces detained 16 wanted men in Basrah and two more in Mosul.


Kenya

Police arrested six Kenyans and a Nigerian holding a British passport for links to Shabaab in Somalia. The Nigerian is said to be the cell leader and was trying to send the six recruits to Somalia. The six Kenyans admitted to being recruited from a mosque in Majengo in Mombasa.


Somalia

African Union troops reportedly killed two civilians in mortar attacks in Mogadishu; several others are in critical condition. Shabaab fighters in Hiran flogged a young man and woman for eloping.


Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula killed a soldier in an IED attack in Lauder in the southern province of Abyan; fighting was reported between troops and AQAP after the blast. The UN said security is deteriorating in the north as fighting between government-backed tribes and Houthi rebels continues.


Europe

Police arrested 10 members of an “international jihadist terrorist group” plotting to conduct attacks in Belgium during sweeps in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. The suspects are of Belgian, Dutch, Moroccan, and Chechen origins.



Pakistan

The US killed five Taliban fighters in a Predator strike in North Waziristan; A Taliban commander was among nine killed in yesterday’s Predator strike strike in the tribal agency. Security forces killed two “militants” in Khyber. General Petraeus praised Pakistan’s counterinsurgency efforts in Swat and South Waziristan.
